Abstract

1358517 Feeding webs INTERNATIONAL , BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 31 May 1972 [5 June 1971] 25352/72 Heading B8R [Also in Division B6] A pin feed device includes means, e.g. feed wheels 35, 36, for advancing an endless pin belt 49 over a bridge 47 of part-cylindrical shape, and a guide surface 31 of part-cylindrical shape for guiding a web 25 having travel perforations as it is engaged by the pin belt, the leading and trailing portions of the guide 31 diverging from the support surface so that the pins only fully engage the paper web over the part-cylindrical portion of the guide. In a high speed printer, there may be four such devices, one for engaging each edge of two separately fed webs, each device being adjustably mounted on lateral bars (5) (6), Fig. 3 (not shown), to accommodate varying widths of web, the devices being locked onto the bars by a clip (38) when a pivotable positioning bracket (32) is lowered into a web guiding position. The bars are also laterally movable. The web is fed between the guide surface 31 and the positioning bracket (32), each of which has an aperture for accommodating the pin belt. A web blockage is detected by a switch (45) actuated by movement of the positioning bracket (32) from its guiding position by the blockage. A web sensor (52) is also provided.
