Abstract
1358386 Heat treating aluminium MAGYAR KABEL MUVEK 14 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 14902/71 Heading C7N Wrought products of aluminium or aluminium alloy are continuously solution treated by resistance heating, the product passing in a linear path between two spaced contacts and then into a cooling zone. The treatment may be carried out at 400‹ C to 600‹C for 1 to 120 seconds using a current of 10, 000 A at IV, with the contacts immersed in liquid. Apparatus includes guide rollers 2, 7 by which the product is caused to pass between contact rollers 3, 5 located in liquid baths 4, 6, the guide rollers being synchronously but having diameters adjusted to the dimensional change in the product brought about by heat treatment. Arcing between contacts and product is prevented by jets of liquid in the tanks 4, 6, the liquid in tank 6 serving to cool the heated material, while additional cooling may be provided between tank 6 and rolls 7. Speed of material travel, current intensity, and spacing of the contacts are all adjustable to provide the desired treatment conditions.
