Abstract
1357696 Recovering braking energy H MAURER 3 Feb 1972 [15 Feb 1971] 5200/72 Heading B7H An arrangement for recovering the braking energy of vehicles includes a compressor 1 which can be coupled to the wheels of the vehicle during deceleration and/or downhill movement of the vehicle a compressed air accumulator 7 and a compressed air motor 2 arranged to be driven by compressed air from the accumulator. Preferably the motor 2 is used to drive the vehicle. As described the compressor 1 is driven by a shaft 4 from the rear axle differential, the drive being engaged by a clutch 6 during deceleration and/or downhill movement. The compressor 1 supplies compressed air to the accumulator 7 via a conduit incorporating a non-return valve 9 and an excess pressure release valve 8. The accumulator 7 also incorporates an excess pressure release valve 10 and supplies compressed air to the motor 2 via a conduit incorporating a valve 11 and a pressure regulator 12. The motor 2 provides an auxiliary drive to the conventional transmission by way of an auxiliary transmission gear 3 including a clutch (not shown).
