Abstract

1357340 Prism systems EMI Ltd 3 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 41182/70 Heading G2J A prism assembly comprises prisms 26, 27, with light input surface 21 and light output surface as shown, the angle between these two faces being equal to the deviation produced by the assembly, the arrangement being such that substantially all the light incident upon the input surface is transmitted, without reflection, into the second prism and is reflected twice within the second prism before emerging from the output surface. The two prisms 26, 27 are separated by air space 13, with cement 23 being used where internal reflection is not important. The prism 27 need only extend to point A where a limiting ray must be reflected, and the prism 26 may then be cut with a face coplanar with face 21 Fig.4, (not shown). The arrangement shown accepts a 60 degrees field of view, and two such arrangements may be incorporated into a mapping camera. By suitable arrangement of two sets of two arrangements Fig. 5a and 5b, (not shown), stereoscopic pairs of the 120 degrees field of view may be obtained.
