Abstract

1,149,238. Viewing system. M.H. FREEMAN. June 23, 1966[May 18, 1965], No.20998/65. Heading G2J. An optical system for increasing the field of view of an observer spaced from an aperture 1, comprises two reflecting surfaces facing each other, each surface comprising two inclined plane reflecting surfaces 7, 8 and 9, 10, arranged such that opposite planes diverge towards the ends of the system. A further pair of reflecting surfaces (12, 13 and 14, 15 Fig. 4 not shown), may be combined with the above system at right angles, such that the edges of the surfaces are contiguous, Fig. 5 (not shown), or with the edges of one pair supporting the rectangular faces of the other, Fig. 6 (not shown). A pair of such systems may be mounted together for binocular viewing. The system may be made up of front-silvered glass mirrors, or two solid glass truncated pyramids, cemented together, and silvered on the outside.
