1357267 Assembling workpieces ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 3 Aug 1972 [4 Aug 1971] 36216/72 Heading B3A Apparatus for assembling workpieces 63, Fig. 1, comprises a housing 11, a gear-box 13, a pivoted head 44 in which a spindle sleeve 51 and a plunger 58 are mounted, the spindle sleeve and plunger being movable by respective first and second levers 30, 47 each actuated by an associated cam plate 27, 26, the head 44 being movable by a third lever 81, Fig. 2, actuated by a third associated cam plate 76. A control shaft 25, connected to a chain drive (not shown), drives cam plates 26, 27. Lever 30 extends from the gear-box 13 and has a toothed segment 41 which contacts teeth 64 of the spindle sleeve 51. A compression spring 65 mounted within sleeve 51 acts to urge plunger 58 downwardly. A spindle 60, which is screwed into a portion 59, supports a tool 66 guided in a bush 68. Rollers 34, 50 are urged against their respective cam plates 27, 26 by respective tension springs 38, 79. Roller 82 co-operates with cam plate 76 and is carried by a roller bearing 80 which has a toothed segment 83. This segment engages a pusher 84 in the form of a toothed rack. In operation, cam plates 26, 27, 76 actuate associated levers 47, 30 and pusher 84 whereby the head 44, spindle sleeve 51 and plunger 58 are moved into position "A". Spindle sleeve 51 and plunger 58 are subsequently extended into position "B" whereupon the tool 66 receives a part from a rail 14. The head is pivoted back to above the workpiece 63 and the sleeve 51 and plunger 58 are lowered so that the tool is just above the workpiece. The travel of plunger 58 may be limited by using a screw (88), Fig. 3 (not shown), and fixed stop (89) associated with the pusher 84. Downward movement of the sleeve 51 causes bush 68 to slip a part 69, e.g. a sealing ring, on to the workpiece, e.g. a valve member. If the part 69 is to be centred before assembly a rotary movement is necessary and therefore a rotatable sleeve (93) Fig. 4 (not shown) is utilized. A toothed wheel (94) drives the sleeve and the plunger 58. The wheel (94) may be driven by a geared motor or flexible drive shaft. The various gripping and clamping functions of the apparatus are effected by collets, grippers &c. by the relative movements between sleeve 51 and plunger 58.
