Abstract

1347840 Transferring articles from presses US INDUSTRIES Inc 7 April 1972 [8 April 1971] 16094/72 Heading B3Q [Also in Division B8] In Fig. 1, a transfer device for carrying workpieces from a press 5 toward another workstation to the right comprises a carriage 4 which is reciprocated longitudinally by a cam 11 and is raised and lowered when a lift frame 3 is actuated by a cam 10. Rotation of the cam 11 from the position shown in Fig. 4 causes a crank 28 to rotate through 180 degrees due to the rotation of a pinion 33 by a gear segment 34. The crank 28 is connected to a link 22 of which one end 25 engages a vertical slot 21 in a member 20 attached to the carriage 4. Due to a vertical guide 41 and horizontal guides 39, 40, the link end 25, together with the carriage 4, moves horizontally. The cam 10 lifts and lowers the carriage by means of gear-pinion means 58, 57, Fig. 9, connected by bell-crank levers 44, 54 and by linkage 48, 49, 55 to the frame 3 on which the carriage 15 is slidable. Workpieces are supported and located on rails 60 mounted on the carriage and also on stationary rails 62. In Fig. 12, an additional carriage 4a is provided for supporting extended rails 60, Workpieces W are transferred between die presses 66, 67 via intermediate stations, the carriages 4, 4a having jaws 64, 65 for engaging the workpieces. In Fig. 2 (not shown), a transfer device is used for loading a first press (5a), an adjacent press (5) being unloaded by a second transfer device. The drive for the device(s) and the press(es) is preferably common.
