Abstract

1356825 Finishing fabrics T C CHADWICK 8 Sept 1972 [9 Sept 1971] 42019/71 Heading D1S A fabric 1 of thermoplastic or thermosetting plastics material is set by passing the fabric 1 over at least one heated cylinder b, maintaining the fabric 1 in contact with the cylinder(s) b by an endless blanket or blankets c, continuously transferring the fabric from the cylinder(s) b to a heated chamber B<SP>1</SP> through which the fabric passes on a divergent stenter frame d and passing the fabric through a cooling zone D<SP>1</SP> before it passes to a batch roll D<SP>2</SP>. As shown, a polyester or polyamide sailcloth fabric 1 passes from a roll A over guide and tension rolls a, a<SP>1</SP> or rods into a chamber B in which the fabric passes around two heated cylinders b. Optionally, each blanket C has individual pressure control to control the degree of shrinkage. The cylinders b are maintained at 180‹-220‹C. The fabric 1 passes through a heating chamber B<SP>1</SP> whilst held on a divergent stenter frame d having pins or clips. The chamber B<SP>1</SP> is heated to a temperature of 160-230‹C by a fan or fans b<SP>1</SP> or heat exchangers. The fabric 1 passes through a still air zone D and into a cooling chamber D<SP>1</SP> maintained at a temperature below 80‹C by a fan b<SP>2</SP>. Heat insulation c is provided on the walls of the chambers B, B<SP>1</SP>, D<SP>1</SP>. A sensor D<SP>3</SP> controls motors driving the cylinders b and the stenter chains to adjust the fabric tension therebetween. Specified fabrics are knitted, woven or non- woven fabric of polyester, polyamide or triacetate fibres.
