Abstract
1356325 Rolling mills P V POULSEN 27 Aug 1971 [8 Sept 1970] 40425/71 Heading B3M [Also in Division H1] In an electric coil consisting of a continuous flat strip-shaped conductor wound on a bobbin together with one or more layers of insulating material, the conductor is provided with thicker sections, as between 10 and 11, such that terminals can be formed therefrom. In the embodiment described the conductor is fed through rollers 3 with a variable gap which can be varied and selected quickly and accurately within a range of 0 to 1 mm. Variation of the gap results in locally thickened portions in the conductor. The insulation is fed from a separate storage coil or alternatively the insulating layer may be attached to the conductor. When a terminal is required the gap is increased, the strip is slit along the thicker portion thus produced and the slit portion is bent free of the strip and the gap is then reduced as required. A hammer of a special tool may be used to facilitate bending the slit portion to form the terminal. The winding machines to effect the invention are described.
