Abstract

1355448 Offshore structures INDUSTRIEELE HANDELSCOMBINATIE HOLLAND NV 12 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 1478/72 Heading E1H A mobile offshore platform provided with at least three raisable and lowerable supporting columns comprises at least two pontoon bodies 1, 2 hingedly interconnected at 3, each of the bodies including at least one of the supporting columns. As shown the body 1 includes columns 4, 5, 8 and 9 and the body 2 columns 10 and 12, the columns 8, 9 and 12 being mounted so as to be horizontally movable in rotatable frames 6, 7 and 11 of the kind disclosed in Specification 1233990 to provide mobility for the platform. These latter columns may alternatively be provided with rotatable bases of the kind disclosed in Specification 1305140. A suction pipe 15 haying a cutting head 16 is attached by way of a universal joint (18 Fig. 4 not shown) to the hinge between the pontoon bodies. The platform operates in the position shown with at least some of the columns supporting it from the sea-bed, but for transportation from one side to another, the columns are jacked up to be supported on the floating pontoon bodies which are in a parallel relationship (Fig. 3 not shown). In modifications (Figs. 5 and 6 not shown) three pontoon bodies may be hingedly interconnected.
