Abstract

1,214,267. Aircraft gangways. AVIOLANDA MAATSCHAPPIJ VOOR VLIEGTUIGBOUW N.V. 22 May, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 26216/69. Heading B7J. An aircraft gangway 1 comprises an end section 2 forwardly engageable with an aircraft fuselage and having side elements 9, 10 pivotable independently of each other about an axis 8 substantially coinciding with the forward lower edge 7 of the section 2, and a roof section 13 supported by and movable with side elements 9, 10 and comprising a rearward extending member 14 slidably connectedwith side elements 9, 10 and a forward rocking member 15 attached by a pivot 20 to the rearward member 14 and having its forward upper edge 22 flexibly connected to side elements 9, 10. The connection between the forward upper edge 22 and side elements 9, 10 is a ball joint 23 comprising a ball (24) movable translationally and rotationally in a cylindrical sleeve (26) to allow rocking movement of member 15. Slidable movement of member 14 is by means of a plurality of rollers 16 in channel shaped side walls 17 which rollers 16 have circumferential grooves 19 engageable by strips 18 in the side walls 17. In use, side elements 9, 10 are pivoted towards a doorway in an aircraft fuselage by hydraulic jacks 12 taking along the rocking member 15, through the ball joints 23, into engagement with the aircraft fuselage, and also the member 14. Sealing members are provided on the forward edges of side elements 9, 10 for wind-tight connection with the fuselage.
