Abstract
1355074 Isoindoline derivatives SANDOZ Ltd 26 April 1971 [28 April 1970 24 Nov 1970 16 Feb 1971] 11334/71 Heading C2C Novel isoindoline derivatives of the general formula wherein each of R and R 1 is a hydrogen, chlorine or fluorine atom and R 2 is a C 1-5 alkyl group or a group of formula in which each of R 3 and R 4 is a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or a C 1-3 straightchain alkyl group, provided that when each of R 3 and R 4 is other than a hydrogen atom, at least one of them is in a position other than the o-position of the phenyl ring, are prepared by reaction of an o-benzoyl-benzoic acid halide of the general formula wherein X is a chlorine or bromine atom, with a sulphonamide of the general formula in an inert organic solvent, and may be converted to 2,3-dihydro-5H-imidazo[2,1-a]isoindoles of the general formula which have appetite-depressant and central nervous system stimulant activity, by treatment with 85-100 wt. per cent sulphuric or phosphoric acid. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,225,411, 1,225,412 and 1,225,413 also to Specification 1,325,066.
