Abstract

1355002 Axial piston pumps ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 12 Jan 1972 [12 Jan 1971] 1515/72 Heading F1A An axial piston pump includes a fluid inlet 41, fluid outlet 42 (or vice versa), and pistons 9 which slide in bores 8 in a rotating cylinder drum 7, driven by a shaft 3. The ends of the pistons are supported by sliding pads 10 which slide around the surface 11 of a control plate 12, the tilt of which may be varied by rod 20 and piston 19 to adjust the stroke of the pistons 9. A recess 15 in each of the pads 10 communicates with its associated bore 8, so that fluid to be pumped may form a hydrostatic bearing between the pad 10 and the surface 11. Lubricating ducts 48 extend from that part of the surface 11 traversed by the sliding pads 10 to grooves in the back bearing surface 18 of control plate 12, so that fluidpressure zones will be periodically created and subsequently decay at the back bearing surface as the fluid filled recesses 15 sweep over the lubricating duct inlets in surface 11. This allows easy adjustment of the control plate 12. In modifications adjacent pairs of lubricating ducts may be provided Fig. 3 (not shown), the lubricating duct may include a non-return valve and a reservoir containing a spring piston whereby the life of the pressure zone may be prolonged, Fig. 4 (not shown), or the control plate back bearing surface may include flattened portions Figs. 5a, 5b (not shown). In pump constructions in which a flat tilting control plate 95, Fig. 8 mounted on bearing trunions 96, 99 is utilized, the lubricating ducts 103, 104 extend through the plate to form the pressure zones on the trunion peripheries. As shown each duct feeds at least one pressure zone on each trunion, the arrangement preferably being such that the duct e.g. 104 aligned with the pump delivery side communicates with a pressure zone of higher capacity on the trunion on the delivery side of the pump and with lower capacity zone(s) on the other trunion. In a modification Fig. 9 (not shown) for use in a non- reversible pump, the lubricating duct inlets are so located in the sliding surface of the control plate as to be simultaneously covered for a time by a single sliding pad, the duct inlet feeding the delivery side trunion being covered however for longer than the other duct inlet.
