Abstract

1354953 Processing chloroprene elastomers MERCK & CO Inc 1 Nov 1971 [5 Nov 1970] 50700/71 Heading C3E Chloroprene polymers are vulcanized using a mixture of magnesium oxide in dispersible form and pentaerythritol. The mixture may be a dispersion in a medium comprising a rubber plasticizer, a surface active agent or a mixture of plasticizer and said agent and/or a metallic soap. In the examples a neoprene formulation is vulcanized in the presence of a magnesium oxide/pentaerythritol mixture dispersed in mineral oil, or in naphthenic petroleum oil containing nonylphenoxypoly (ethyleneoxy) ethanol and calcium stearate. The dispersion may be in stick or pelletized form.
