Abstract

1326815 Vulcanizing chloroprene polymers MERCK & CO Inc 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970 5 Oct 1970 13 Jan 1971] 23403/71 Heading C3E Chloroprene polymers are vulcanized using a composition comprising (1) MgO, (2) a surface active agent and/or a metallic soap and (3) a rubber plasticizer. The composition may be in the form of sticks or pellets. In the examples the compositions are pastes consisting of MgO and (a) mineral oil and sorbitan mono oleate or polyethylene; (b) aromatic petroleum oil and polyoxyethylene ester of mixed fatty and resin acids, alkylaryl sulphonates, glycerol monostearate, monylphenoxypoly(ethyleneoxy) ethanol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyoxyethylated fatty acid or ferric distearate; (c) aromatic hydrocarbon resin and ethyleneglycol monostearate; (d) butyloleate and cetyl stearyl alcohol; (e) dibutyl phthalate, or tricresyl phosphate, and sorbitan monooleate; (f) naphthenic oil, sorbiton monooleate and calcium stearate; (g) naphthenic oil, pentaerythritol tetrastearate and, optionally, nonylphenoxypoly(ethylenoxy) ethanol; (h) paraffinic oil and sorbitan monooleate ; and (i) naphthenic oil and ferric di- or iristearate. The oils used may be partially replaced by a coumarone-indene resin or liquid polyisobutylene, as in the composition containing MgO, naphthenic oil, coumarone-indene resin, aluminium stearate and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate.
