Abstract

1357745 Hydroxyamine salts of organothiophosphoric acids ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 14 April 1972 [5 May 1971] 13208/71 Heading C2P [Also in Division C5] Hydroxy-amine salts of di-, tri- or tetrathiophosphoric acids having the Formulµ I and II where R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are hydrogen- and carboncontaining groups, R<SP>3</SP> is aromatic and X<SP>1</SP> and X<SP>2</SP> are oxygen or sulphur are made by reacting the thiophosphoric acid with the hydroxyamine, the amine preferably being added to the acid at 50-120‹ C. over about 30 mins. The thiophosphoric acid can itself be prepared in situ by reacting P 2 S 5 with an alcohol or thiol. In an example, the ethanolamine and monoisopropanolamine salts of isodecanol dithiophosphoric acid are prepared by the above procedure, in a mineral oil medium. The salts are lubricant additives (Division C5).
