Abstract

1354888 Tracked vehicle with anti-overturning device NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 28 July 1971 [11 Aug 1970] 38656/70 Heading B7L A tracked vehicle has an anti-overturning device separate from the main weight-bearing means (such as wheels 4, Fig. 2, or air bearings 28, Fig. 10), the device comprising at least one pair of guide means (8 and 22, Fig. 2, or 29 and 22, Fig. 10) -mountable generally to one side of the vehicle so that when the vehicle tends to overturn sideways to that side they are adapted to bear in opposite senses against fixed surfaces 10 and 17 extending along the track and thus set up a couple that resists such overturning. First guide means may be rubbertyred lateral guide wheels 8, Fig. 2, or air bearings 29, Fig. 10, arranged to react with side walls 10 of the channel-section track. Second guide means may be rollers 22, 23 carried by cranked ends 20, 21 of an adjustable rod 18 so that when the rollers 22 to one side of the vehicle are in their operative position co-operating with a rail 17, the other rollers 23 are inoperative. The rails 17 are preferably located in the vicinity of junctions where the side wall 10 must be discontinuous.
