Abstract

1354768 Electro-photography BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTE 16 June 1971 [17 June 1970] 28293/71 Heading G2H A recording member comprises a dispersion of electrically conductive particles in an insulating deformable layer. The layer may be porous (with open or closed pores), non-porous, or fibrous and may be capable of giving off a gas upon heating and/or exposure to radiation. Deformation may be by (a) pressure or (b) heat, optionally after U.V. radiation. The conductive particles may be of uniform or non-uniform size and, have a size of 0.1-100 microns and a concentration in the dispersion of 10-80% by volume. The dispersion may be a layer 5-500 microns thick. The layer may have a conductive backing and may be discontinuous. The conductivity image resulting from imagewise deformation may be developed directly by electrolysis or electrophoresis; or by a wet or dry electrostatic method after conversion of the conductivity image into an electrostatic image (which may be transferred). Fixing (which may be by heat) may be effected on the recording or a transfer member. The binder may comprise a polymerisable monomer or depolymerisable polymer. Conductive and dispersion layer materials are specified.
