1353528 Packages and boxes for semiconductor discs WACKER-CHEMITRONIC GES FUR ELEKTRONIK-GRUNDSTOFFE mbH 8 Nov 1971 [13 Nov 1970] 51742/71 Headings B8C and B8P A package for fragile articles, such as semiconductor discs, comprises a round container 1 with a round insert 3 having a coaxial annular recess of inverted frusto-conical shape and with pairs of radially-aligned grooves 7, 7 in the opposed walls 4, 4 of the recess, a central guide rod 5, a clamping-down device which comprises a central boss 6 with a split upper end and from which radiate a number of spokes 8 each with a groove 10, in its underside, a locking nut 9, and preferably a lid 2 which fits over the top of the container. The grooves 10 are equal in number to the pairs of radially-aligned grooves 7, 7 on engagement, such as splines, ensuring that each groove 10 is aligned with a corresponding pair of grooves 7, 7. The upper end of the bore of the locking nut 9 is tapered so that, when the nut 9 is screwed on to the boss 6, it depresses the split portion thereof to lock it, at the desired position, to the guide rod 5. In order to facilitate stacking the containers, the base of each container may be provided with a rim which is adapted to fit over an upper lid section of reduced diameter having knurls, or vanes, which aid opening, or closing, the box. The insert 3 has groove and projection engagement with the container 1. The lid may be sealed with a strip of self-adhesive tape, not shown.
