Abstract

1353500 Greases PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO 23 Dec 1971 [24 Dec 1970] 60128/71 Heading C5F Mineral or fatty oil greases have added thereto 0.5-10 wt. per cent of a hydrogenated butadiene/styrene copolymer having a number average molecular weight of 10,000-200,000 and a butadiene : styrene weight ratio of from 30 : 70 to 75 : 25. Grease thickeners specified are alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, aluminium and lead soaps (examples given) and finely divided polyolefins, e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene or ethylene/propylene copolymer. The grease may also contain propylenediamine, phenyl-α-naphthylamine, phenothiazine, mica, asbestos, powdered lead, powdered zinc, talc, alumina, titanium dioxide, molybdenum disulphide, bentones, carbon black, nitrobenzene, and lead diamyldithiocarbamate.
