Abstract

1353446 Testing spray carburettors DEUTSCHE VERGASER GmbH & CO K G 3 May 1972 [13 Jan 1972] 20664/72 Heading F1B In a test method a carburettor is installed in a chamber in a lower than ambient pressure, a mixture flow is produced in the main carburettor outlet on the downstream side of a throttle or butterfly valve, fuel is supplied to the air on the upstream side of the throttle valve and periodic pressure changes are produced in the fuel/air stream at a location which is between the point of entry of fuel into the fuel/air stream and the throttle valve. A flexible diaphragm 40 driven by electric motor 45 produces pressure fluctuations in chamber 41 which are transmitted to chamber 29. Carburettor diaphragm 23 and piston slide valve 22 oscillate to cause pressure fluctuations in mixing chamber 31. The oscillation of the fuel metering needle 27 varies the liquid fuel flow rate. In a modification the tube 35 is connected to connection 36. The volume of chamber 41, or of duct 35, or of a separate equalizing chamber communicating with the duct, is adjustable. The diaphragm 40 may be oscillated by a compressed air motor or electromagnetically. Duct 35 may be connected to entry 36.
