Abstract
1352850 Stranding machines P F HARRIS 17 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 23749/70 Heading D1T A stranding machine in which either onefor-one or no back-rotation of the supply bobbins can be achieved, and in which the length of wire from a bobbin to the stranding head is substantially constant, thus ensuring constant tension, comprises a cage of discs 1 and rails 2 rotatable on rollers 3 about axis 4 by motor 5, gearing 6 to 9, and shaft 10, the bobbins 15 being mounted with their centres spaced along the axis on cradles 11 between universal joints 12, 13. Wire from each bobbin passes through a guide 16 adjacent a respective universal joint. Sun and planet gearing 17, 22, 23 driven from shaft 21 is arranged to drive the universal joints and thus rotate the bobbin cradles. If no back-rotation is required, gear 18 is locked to shaft 10 so no rotation of shaft 21 relative to the cage occurs. For back-rotation, gear 18 is held stationary whilst shaft 10 rotates. Correction of misalignment of individual cores is obtained by operation of motors 24. An endless belt device (Fig. 3, not shown) may be used to haul-off the cable, which may be taken up on a stationary, or rotating reel.
