Abstract

1351875 Electro-depositing lead-tin alloy PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 April 1972 [10 April 1971] 16090/72 Heading C7B An acid electro-plating bath for depositing bright Pb-Sn alloy (0À5-80% Pb), e.g. on Cu tracks on printed circuits, includes a lead and stannous salt, the anions being sulphonate, sulphamate, perchlorate or pyrophosphate, a surface-active material, as primary brightening agent one or more compounds of the formula R 1 -CR 2 =CR 3 -CO-R 4 in which R 1 , R 2 and R 4 is H, an aliphatic, heterocyclic or aromatic group and R 3 is H, an alkyl or esterified carboxyl group, or in which the combination R 1 -CR 2 =C(R 3 )- constitutes a ring system, and as secondary brightening agent formalin, N-vinylpyrrolidone, tetrahydrofuran, vinyl acetate or an acryloyl-containing compound as disclosed in Specification no. 1300376. Examples of primary brightening agent are benzalacetone 1, 3, dihydrotolylaldehyde, furfural, w-acetylcinnamic acid ethylester, p-toluylstyrylketone or 2-cinnamylthiophene. The secondary brightening agent may be 1, 3, 5- triacryloyl-hexahydro-s-triazine, NH<SP>1</SP> methylenebis-acrylamide or acrylic acid. The surfaceactive material may be a condensation product of polyoxyethylene with alkylphenol or polyoxyethylene (10) scyamine. The Sn and Pb may be added as SnO 2 and Pb hydroxycarbonate to react with e.g. pyrophosphoric acid. Specifications 1141283, 1151460 and 1199634 are also referred to.
