Abstract

1351669 Valves SMITH-DENNIS Ltd 7 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 57491/71 Heading F2V In a wedge-gate valve having two seating rings 24, 25 co-operating with the wedge gate 31 in valve closed position, each seating ring has a lip 35, 36 defined by an inner peripheral groove 32, 33. The outer wedge face 28, 29 of each ring is inclined at 3¢ degrees to the corresponding seating face 31 of the gate so that the lip, which is thus thickest at its radial inner periphery, is deformed by the gate on closure. The grooves 32, 33 are preferably not more than 0À2 inches in depth, Each sealing ring is screwed into its corresponding bore 20a, 21a. The gate is connected by arms 50 to the lower end of a spindle 44 which is screwed into bore 42 and is axially moved by a handwheel 47. Tap-off screw 52 can release fluid from chamber 14 when the gate is closed.
