Abstract

1354709 Valves P T MANNVILLER 28 July 1971 [28 July 1970] 35517/71 Heading F2V In a butterfly valve a sealing ring 9 of substantially trapezoidal cross-section with a recess in its inner periphery is disposed in an annular channel about the periphery of the rotatable valve member 4. The channel is defined by the member 4 proper and a retaining plate 11 which is spaced from the member 4 to provide communication between the inlet passage 7a and the cavity 14 defined between the ring 9 and the base of the channel so that inlet fluid pressure urges the ring outwards on to the spherical or frusto-conical seat 8. Passages in the member 4 may alternatively communicate cavity 14 with the inlet.
