Abstract

1350817 Making non-cutting shaping tools SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd 12 Aug 1971 [14 Aug 1970] 37935/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division C7] A method of producing a steel tool, for example an extrusion die, comprises shaping a working surface of the tool by electro erosion then smoothing that surface by electro-polishing, thereby removing the hard surface layer produced by the electro-erosive treatment. The electrode which may be graphite or aluminium, may be used for both processes. The electrolyte may be a mixture of 2 parts by volume methyl alcohol plus 1 part nitric acid; or perchloric acid; acetic acid; phosphoric acid; sulphuric acid; chromic acid or their mixtures.
