1350173 Sewing machine BONDS-WEAR PTY Ltd 23 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 13706/72 Heading D1G A machine which sews the edge of a body opening in a garment comprises a body form 1 on which the garment is to be mounted, a shaft 14 carried on a movable frame 19 and extending through a shaft 34 to carry at its lower end a replica (35, Fig. 2 not shown) of the shape of the opening, the replica having a chain fixed round its periphery and driven at a uniform speed to rotate the garment in form 1 at a varying angular speed which will allow stitches of uniform length to be made by a sewing machine (41, Fig. 4 not shown) carried on an arm (43) pivoted to the frame 19 for movement up and down, towards and away from that frame. The shaft 34, driven by gearing 29 &c has a cam 52 having a shape corresponding to, for example, the waist of the body form 1. Rollers (53, Fig. 2) on the sewing machine support arm 43 press against the edge of cam 52 which thus controls movement of the arm and sewing machine towards and away from the axis of rotation of the form 1. A further cam 51 on shaft 34 engages a roller (50, Fig. 2) to control the up and down movement of the arm. A plate 59 on shaft 34 carries cams operating air valves 57 supplying cylinders to actuate the sewing machine drive clutch, thread nipper, and the edge lifter and needle. The form 1 is mounted on a travelling bar 5, or a conveyor, to be moved between garment loading, working, and unloading positions. A dog clutch connection between the form and the top end of shaft 14 is provided, the form and the top end of shaft 14 is provided, the clutch engaging as the frame 19 is raised by the cooperation of cam 32 on gear 30 with a roller (33, Fig: 2).
