Abstract
1349749 Bridges; latticework girders THOS STOREY (ENGS) Ltd 17 Sept 1971 [23 Oct 1970] 50564/70 Headings E1G and E1K In a bridge panel of the kind formed by a lattice comprising two parallel chord members 2 spaced apart by transverse members 6 and diagonal members 12, the members 6 and 12 are formed of rectangular hollow section tube. Preferably, each of the chords comprises two U section bars arranged with their webs in parallel vertical planes and their flanges facing away from one another, spacers 34 being welded between the bars and drilled for the reception of bolts which may be used to fit two panels together one above the other. The tubular members 6, 12 are welded between the webs of the bars and are also welded to pairs of gusset plates 8, 10 to complete the lattice. Transom connection plates 28 are welded across the tops of further pairs of gusset plates 26 each of which is welded across the angle between the lower ends of a pair of the members 12. Each connection plate 28 has a dowel 30 and bolt holes 32 for attachment of the transom member. T blocks 48 are welded to the upper chord bars in the angles opposite the plates 28 for securing raker members (not shown). Spigots 14 on one end of the panel are adapted to engage between pairs of jaws 18 on the opposite end of an adjacent panel for securing a number of panels together end-to-end by means of fastening pins (40, Fig. 6, not shown) engaged in aligned apertures 16, 20 in the spigots 14 and jaws 18, respectively.
