Abstract

1349523 Sintered bearings G K N GROUP SERVICES Ltd 5 May 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 5693/70 Heading C7D Sintered bearings are made from a composite powder including 25-30% graphite as lubricant, by cold pressing the powder, heating the green compact and hot pressing the heated compact. The preferred powder is 70-75% Fe and 25-30% graphite which is compacted at 20 t. s.i. in a die or isostatically, heated to 950-1150‹C and hot pressed at 30-40 t.s.i. Alternatively a non- ferrous metal powder e.g. tin bronze or gun metal may be used in place of Fe in which case the compact is heated to 650-850‹ C. The powder may also include MoS 2 .
