Abstract
1348733 Feeding sheets UNITED STATES ENVELOPE CO 23 Feb 1972 8444/72 Heading B8R Sheets L, Figs. 1 and 2, are piled on edge in groups G between cleats 40 projecting from endless chains 41, with their lower edges resting on a plate 72, Fig. 1, 2 and 4, and on a screw member 46, and are separated in turn from the end of the pile by a belt 16 having ports which pass over stationary ports 30 in a vacuum box 28, and then directed by a curved guide 129 between feed belts 126. In order to advance the pile into light contact with the separators, the cleats are driven by a reversible motor 64 in small steps alternately forward and backwards, with greater forward movements, under the control of a two-way switch 82 actuated by a pivoted abutment 90 engaged by the front sheet L<SP>1</SP>; the arrangement being such that pressure on the abutment causes reverse movement of the pile and consequent release of the abutment causes forward movement thereof. At the same time, the screw 46 is rotated in a direction such as to move the sheets forwards and also urge them to the left, Figs. 1 and 4, against a side support 112. The screw is provided with three axially and 120 degree angular spaced flat areas 114a, 114b, 114c, which allow reverse movement of the sheets when this is caused by the cleats.
