Abstract
1348519 Unpacking devices MASSON SCOTT THRISSELL ENG Ltd 27 Nov 1972 [1 Dec 1971] 55685/71 Headings B8C and B8A Apparatus for ejecting a stack 15 of mail or like flat articles from a magazine 10 comprises a vertically movable platform 14 upon which the stack is built up to a pre-determined height, the platform descending as the stack grows until a switch SW1 is actuated whereupon pusher 25 moves across to eject a stack of a height decided by the spring-loaded wall 11. Platform 14 is mounted on blocks 18 slidable on rods 16 against counterbalancing springs 20, and has interlock rollers 43 which engage pusher 25 to prevent ejection until the platform reaches its lowest position. Pusher 25 is mounted on block 26 slidable on rod 27 and has further interlock rollers 44 engaging platform 14 during ejection to prevent the return upward stroke of the platform before ejection is complete. Pusher 25 and platform 14 are controlled by a tension cord 33 leading from a spring-return bobbin 34, which may be clutched to driven shaft 35, over pulleys 36, 38, 39, 40 to block 26. Switch SW1 energizes the clutch to tension the cord whereupon pusher 25 is drawn across the magazine against light spring 41 to engage switch SW2 to disengage the clutch. Pusher 25 and platform 14 then return to their initial positions under the action of springs 20 and 41. Cord 33 operates to pull down platform 14 for the ejection of incomplete stacks when switch SW1 is by-passed by a manual override.
