Abstract

1348229 Moving coil transducers STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 22 June 1972 29311/72 Heading H4J Moving coil transducer, e.g. a telephone transmitter or receiver, has a diaphragm unit comprising an insulating ring secured to the periphery of a diaphragm 13, carrying a coil, with rod like terminals 15, 16, extending at right angles to the ring and which, when the diaphragm unit is mounted on a magnet unit, extend through grooves or tunnels 11, 12, provided in the magnet unit. As described the diaphragm assembly is moulded in polycarbonate plastics and is held to the magnet unit by a spun metal cover 21, the holes of which are backed by a nylon mesh acoustical resistance 22 and a polyethylene terephthalate sealing membrane 20. The magnet unit comprises a cylindrical permanent magnet 2 adhesively attached to a housing 1. Polepieces 3 and 4, on a grid 6 which is insert moulded to the polepiece 4, are held in place by a frame 19 of polycarbonate, which is thermally deformed to surround the outer surface of the housing 1. A nylon mesh damping annulus 8 is provided on the back surface of the grid 6, behind the air gap of the magnet unit.
