Abstract
1347501 Packaging apparatus; wrapping BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 20 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 24649/70 Heading B8C In apparatus for folding a sheet metal blank 6 around a stack 3 of sheet steel, the ends of the stack are first aligned on roller conveyer 2 with axles 8 about which folding members 4, 5 are rotatable, each member having a clamp 14 mounted between arms 7 to pick up and grip an end of blank 6 and wrap that end over the top of stack 3 as arms 7 are then rotated in succession by hydraulic actuators 9, each clamp 14 being tensioned radially outwards of arms 7 by hydraulic cylinders 20 during the wrapping movement. Clamps 14 rotate on bearings 15 sliding in slots 16 of arms 7, and have hydraulically operated jaws. Member 4 is adjustable along slot 10 to accommodate different sizes of stack 3. In another embodiment, relative sliding between the sheets in stack 3 during wrapping is prevented by stops mounted on axles 8 adjacent arms 7, the stops being swung inwardly across an end of the stack.
