Abstract
1347476 Radio beacon ULTRA ELECTRONICS Ltd 19 April 1971 [14 April 1970] 17627/70 Heading H4L A radio beacon, especially a distress beacon for use on aircraft, at sea, &c., can transmit and receive voice information as well as transmit the beacon signal. The voice transmission and reception can be on one of two channels the received signal being mixed (17) with the other one of the channel frequencies from that used for the voice carrier to yield a constant IF for the common IF stages 18. For each frequency 243À0 MH 3 and 282À8 MH 3 , an oscillator, 7/10 and frequency doublers, 8, 9/11, 12 are provided. Transducer 3 is a microphone in the transmission mode, and a loud-speaker in the reception mode. Two way, five pole switch 2 has arms performing the following functions (shown positions functions being given first), OFF/ON, TX/RX, 243À0 MHz/282À8 MHz, voice/beacon and use as heterodyne signal 282À8 MH 3 /243À0 MHz. The beacon signal is at 243À0 MHz only and is ON/OFF modulated at 5 by the variable frequency output of tone generator 6 and chopper 21. The outputs of the frequency doublers are fed to the mixer or transmitter power amplifier under the control of isolating switched diodes. Additional channels can be catered for by using local oscillators having frequency differences equal to the constant IF.
