Abstract
1347377 Thermal regenerators AERO-FLOW DYNAMICS Inc 1 Dec 1971 [3 Dec 1970] 55746/71 Heading F4K In a gas-to-gas, e.g. fresh combustion gases and air, regenerative heat exchanger wheel comprising a hub 10, a rim 11 and a matrix filling 12, a plurality of radial spokes 13, 14 angularly spaced on the upper and lower faces of the matrix extend between the hub and rim and serve to retain the matrix filling 12 in place, the spokes 13, 14 being accommodated in grooves cut in the surfaces of the matrix. The spokes 14 on the lower face of the wheel are staggered relative to the spokes on the upper face. The spokes 14 are secured both to the hub 15 and to the rim 11, e.g. by welding, whereas the spokes 13 are secured only at one of their ends to the rim or the hub while the unsecured ends remain floating. The matrix comprises a continuous spiral wrapping of alternating flat and corrugated foil ribbons 20, 21. The hub 10 is formed from a cylindrical metal piece to the ends of which are secured caps 16 and 17 containing apertures 18 and 19 provided for receiving a shaft on which the regenerator wheel is mounted.
