1346762 Air filter PATENT PROTECTION Ltd 19 April 1971 [29 April 1970] 20732/70 Heading BIT [Also in Divisions Fl F3 and F4] An air filter comprises a porous body 4 comprising a stack of abutting discs rotated by motor 2, to act as a centrifugal fan and filter element combined, surrounded by a fixed annular filter element 13 comprising bonded active carbon between cloth sleeves 14. As the body 4 rotates, air is drawn through openings 10, 17 and blown outwards through element 13. Body 4 may be of foamed plastics and have only a small impingement cleaning effect on the air, but as shown it comprises discs 6, 7 of bonded fibres having active carbon granules therein, these discs having a depth filtering effect. Disc 7 is thinner and may be of different materials from discs 6, the discs being held on shaft 1 by the friction grip of rubber washers 5 and being reinforced by cardboard discs 8. Body 4 could be elliptical in section and could enclose the motor 2. Body 4 and/or element 13 could incorporate means for deodorising, medicating, perfuming or humidifying the air. Opening 17 is shielded by a wire grill 18 and the filter is tiltable on its base (Fig. 1 not shown).
