Abstract

1346481 Impregnating webs TRIATEX INTERNATIONAL AG 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 25362/71 Heading D1L In the impregnation of a textile material with a finishing agent, the material 10 has the bath 22 containing the agent applied to one surface by a kiss roll 20 partially immersed in the bath, the degree of immersion controlled by a mechanism 23 to raise and lower the vat, a doctor 42 controlling the film on the roll 20. The rate of rotation of the roll is less than the movement of the textile material and is variable to control the amount taken up by the material, which amount is measured by a detector 34, a similar detector 26 measuring the weight and moisture content before coating so that a control unit 30 attached to each can vary the roll rotation, this being to keep the amount of agent applied below of the dry weight of the material, where W is the moisture retention capacity of the material in percent, determined by test method ASTM-D2402-65T. After impregnation the material is partially dried in a mechanism 50. A heater 40 may be provided to control the viscosity of the bath, and a further detector mechanism 54 can be provided to measure the final residual moisture in the web, and control the throughput speed of the material 10. As an alternative to the control of roller speed by the detector mechanism 34 (or in addition thereto) a sensor 33 may be positioned to maintain, by adjustment of the roll speed, the level of the bath constant so that the amount applied to the material exactly corresponds to the infeed to the bath.
