Abstract

1346223 Polymeric binders EASTMAN KODAK CO 29 April 1971 [1 May 1970] 12180/71 Heading G2C [Also in Division C3] A binder for magnetic recording layers on synthetic resin films comprises (a) cellulose nitrate and (b) a copolymer of 50-80% vinylidene chloride, 2-30% acrylonitrile and 0-60% of a lower alkyl or hydroxyalkyl acrylate or lower alkacrylate (lower alkyl is C 1 - C 6 ) which is preferably applied as a solution in a N, N - di - lower alkyl amide of a lower aliphatic acid. Suitable solvents are N, N- dimethyl-formamide and/ or -acetamide optionally with 2 - ethoxyethanol, methyl ethyl ketone, n - butanol, amyl acetate and 2 - butoxyethanol. Also present may be a maleic polyester plasticizer and sorbitan tristearate and gamma ferric oxide is used as the ferromagnetic material. The composition may be used to form the recording medium on photographic film.
