1346048 Workpiece supports; making dies; stamping V S ENG Ltd and F SHORTLAND 19 April 1971 [3 Dec 1969] 59079/69 Headings B3A B3B and B3Q A workpiece support apparatus, e.g. for supporting a master part and a work part in a bedding operation to produce a shaped press die or mould, comprises a horizontal bed 1, e.g. for supporting the work part, at least two vertical pillars 3, a slide member 4 for each pillar, each slide member having a bracket supporting means for releasably securing a platen 7, e.g. for supporting the master part, so that the platen may be moved vertically on the pillars 3 and may be removed from the apparatus leaving the slide members on the pillars 3. The platen may be the die or mould supporting platen from a press. The platen includes lugs 10 for a crane hoist, and similar lugs may be provided on the slide members 4 to raise the platen on the pillars. The slide members and platen are retained in the raised position by a channel shaped guard 30 which is swung into a position adjacent each pillar. Alternatively a foot operated latch and/or a screw clamp device may be provided (Fig. 7, not shown). The slide members 4 may be counter-balanced, or overbalanced. The platen 7 is located on arms 8 of slide members 4 by means of pins and secured by a clamp arrangement 9.
