Abstract

1345941 Pipe couplings FLEX-LOX INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 Nov 1971 54243/71 Heading F2G In a coupling for plain-ended pipes, in which resilient sealing rings 13 are secured to the pipe ends and have external beads 18, the sleeve 20 is reinforced by means of a closely fitting band 30, which maintains the effectiveness of the seal when the coupling is subjected to shear forces. The band 30 may be of stainless steel. The rings 13 may be of urethane elastomer, synthetic rubber or resilient polyvinyl chloride. The sleeve 20 may be of injection-moulded acrylo-nitrile butadiene styrene or styro acrylonitrile. Alternatively, if the rib 23 is omitted, the sleeve may be formed by extrusion and subsequent machining of the lead-in surfaces 26.
