Abstract
1345217 Cutting tools; boring KENNAMETAL Inc 13 Oct 1971 47617/71 Headings B3T and B3C A cutting tool comprises a holder 10 with an insert-receiving pocket 12, an invertable cutting insert 22 located in the pocket and having an oblique slot 38 in its top and bottom surfaces which forms an acute angle with the side of the insert which abuts the side wall 16 of the pocket. A recess 46 is provided in the holder 10 spaced from the slot 38 and parallel thereto, and a clamp member 42 with two depending legs 40 and 44 which engage in the slot and recess 38, 46 respectively and a screw 48 engaging in the holder to urge the clamp 42 into engagement with the-insert and holder to clamp the insert in the pocket 12. The slot and recess having at least one inclined face whereby the action of the clamp draws the insert firmly into the pocket. The cutting ends of the insert may be shaped to perform thread cutting and grooving and the longitudinal axis of the slot may extend transversely or longitudinally of the holder. The holder 10 may be in the form of a shank for use in turning operations or a boring head 84 which is attachable to a boring bar 86.
