Abstract
1345209 Keyboards for printers SINGER CO 21 Sept 1971 [4 Nov 1970] 43985/71 Heading B6F [Also in Division H1] In a push-button keyboard each switch comprises a push-button key 12 carrying a permanent magnet 40 co-operating with a sealed magnetic reed contact device 32 in the depressed position and with a magnetic keeper plate 23 in the upper position, the plate 23 having a resilient foam cushioning layer 24 on its upper surface to cushion downward movement of the pushbutton and a sound damping layer 28 on its lower surface effective on upward movement. Sound damping layer 28 also limits the magnetic holding force exerted by the permanent magnet 40 on plate 23. Projections 19 on opposite sides of the push-button 12 prevent the formation of a vacuum, when the push-button engages the cushioning layer 24. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the formation of a vacuum is precluded by providing longitudinal grooves in the key stem 16 which extend below plate 23 when the pushbutton key 12 is depressed. The magnet 40 is resiliently retained in a slot 42 of the stem. The contact device 32 may be mounted on a printed circuit board 32.
