Abstract

1344877 Electric motors JEUMONTSCHNEIDER 19 April 1971 [15 April 1970] 25948/71 Heading H2A [Also in Division F1] An electrically operated pump or compressor comprises a plurality of spaced field coils 1 connected to the phases of a polyphase A.C. supply thereby to reciprocate a magnetic steel armature 6A carrying pumping pistons 18. When the pistons 18 reach the ends of their strokes they operate limit switches 11 which initiate by way of a logic circuit (not described) a change in the phase fed to the field coils. The pistons 18 vary the volume of valve pumping chambers A 1 , B 1 and chambers A, B containing a cooling fluid. The chambers A, B are in communication through bores 20, 21 in the armature and an annular space between the armature and the coils 1. The pistons 18, and consequently the cooling fluid, may be omitted if the armature 6A is made a sliding fit in annular members 22 disposed at the ends of the coils.
