Abstract
1344875 Alloys NIPPON STEEL CORP 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970 15 Oct 1970] 25599/71 Heading C7A A high tensile strength steel comprises Al (acid soluble) 0À0005-0À1% C 0À03-0À23% Mu 0À5-2% N 0À003-0À012% Si 0À02-0À8% Ti 0À004-0À07% B 0-0À006% V 0 or 0À02-0À2% Ni 0-5% Cu 0-2% Cr 0-0À35% Mo 0-0À35% with balance Fe. Preferably more than 0À004% of the steel is Ti in the form of Ti N particles less than 0À05Á in diameter and the acid insoluble N content is greater then 0À005%. If the steel is cooled from pouring to 1100‹C. at less than 5‹C . /min it should subsequently be heated above 1050‹C. once only, preferably in the range 1050- 1250‹C. on the other hand if the cooling rate from pouring to 1100‹C. is greater than 5‹C. /min the steel may subsequently be heated once in the range 1100-1250‹C. The steel may be normalized at 890-920‹C., hardened from a temperature in the range 850-950‹C. and tempered at 500-690‹C. The steel is particularly suitable for automatic welding at heat inputs greater than 50,000 3/cm.
