Abstract
134,482. Olsen, L. April 15, 1919. C a s e d formas; bearings.-A bearing is lined with Babbitt metal by centrifugal casting. A bronze &c, shell 1 is first dipped in molten tin or solder and is then clamped in a machine between plates 3, 4, carried by a shaft 8. Babbitt metal is poured through an opening 19 whilst the shaft is rotated by gearing 16. The plate 4 is fixed rigidly to a plate 3 by a non-rotary sliding member 11 actuated by a rack 12, pinion 13, and handle 15. The shell, after removal from the machine, is bored and machined externally, and is then cut longitudinally and transversely to form semi-cylindrical bearings, which are bent or pressed into their final form, and the edge surfaces are cut off to the size required.
