Abstract
638,435. Continuous casting - machines. JOHNSON, A. A., (trading as JOHNSON & CO., A.). July 18, 1947, No. 19216. Convention date, April 22, 1943. [Class 83 (i)] Moulds.-An alloy of an alkali metal and lead is made in a form suited to lead alkyl synthesis by rotating a cooled grooved roller 13 while dipped in a bath 12 of the molten alloy and continuously removing the solid alloy which breaks up longitudinally and transversely into pieces 22 of equal size. The roller may be precoated with a lower melting point metal or alloy and is cooled internally by liquid sprayed from a pipe 14. It is enclosed in a casing 18 which is filled with inert gas and supplied with molten alloy at 11 and has an outlet at 17 to pass the pieces 22 without admitting air. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also machines with rollers 13 having semi-circular or V-shaped grooves. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
