Abstract

1343221 Navigational instruments GEORGE PHILIP & SON Ltd 12 Jan 1971 1474/71 Headings G1F and G1X Apparatus for plotting courses and bearings on a map comprises a single transparent screen 11 marked with mutually angled reference marks 15, the screen being hinged along one edge 12 to a base 10. The base 10 may be provided with mutually angled reference marks 16 and, in use, a map is inserted between the transparent screen 11 and base 10 and oriented relative to the reference marks 15, 16 in such a way that, for example, compass readings can be drawn directly on the screen whereby directions relative to true north are directly indicated on the screen relative to the map. The mutually angled reference marks on the screen may be coloured differently from those on the base and also from parallel lines 13 representative of meridians on the screen. The apparatus may be used in conjunction with a plotting tool Fig.3 (not shown) made of transparent plastics material and comprising three compass rings arranged side-by-side and each graduated in an anti-clockwise direction.
