Abstract

1343035 Ink-ribbon mechanism MOHAWK DATA SCIENCES CORP 18 Jan 1971 [15 April 1970] 2299/71 Heading B6F A page-width ink ribbon is fed between detachable mandrels 15a, 15b in alternate directions, and means is provided to shift the ink ribbon transversely. The mandrels are mounted on caps 17a, 17b, the upper cap 17b being mounted on a shaft 31a which is longitudinally movable in response to detector means sensing the edge of the ink ribbon. The detector may comprise a pair of adjacent photo-electric cells and associated lamps. A motor 65 is energized to drive the shaft 31a in the required direction. The transverse movement of the ink ribbon may be effected to prevent skewing thereof, or may be caused to minimise wear of the ribbon. Excessive lateral movement of the shaft, detected by microswitches 71, stops the machine. The ribbon is driven by drive means 27 in alternate directions, conductive foil at the ends of the ribbon closing an electrical circuit to reverse the direction of feed when the ribbon is exhausted.
