Abstract

1305252 Selective printing INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 9 April 1970 [25 April 1969] 16823/70 Heading B6F A wire printer having wire arranged in a line Fig. 6, mounted on a print head for moving across recording surface, comprises control means wherein electromagnetic drive means operate selected wires at any of a sequence of evenly spaced normal positions to form characters, the traversing time of the head between adjacent ones of said positions being shorter than the reset period of the drive means so that no wire can be operated at two adjacent positions. The operation of the wires, in addition to the normal fine spaces is additionally operated at in-between spaces thereby making a total of nine overlapping vertical positions. If one wire is operated in a half-space, then the next possible location at which it can operate is the next in-between position. In addition to the normal seven wires in the vertical line two additional wires 39, 40 in the same line are provided so that lower-case characters can be formed.
