1342879 Ceramic-glass mixtures E C DEKETELAERE 30 Dec 1970 [30 Dec 1969] 63343/69 Heading C1M Coatings or shaped bodies are produced by heating ceramic particles to a temperature at which a vitreous substance is formed at the surface of at least some of the particles, the vitreous substance serving to bind the particles. The particles may be compressed in the cold before heating, e.g. at a pressure 1500 to 2000 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and then heated to between 1500 and 1700‹ C. or hot compressed at pressures between 1000 and 2000 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>. The particles may be vibrated at the moment of formation of the vitreous matrix. The initial particles may be oxides of silicon, zirconium, thorium, aluminium, chromium or magnesium containing materials and may also include colundrum. The particles may be initially bound together with clay or with a number of other normal binders.
